Santa Fe Opera 2024 apprentice SCENE
La Rondine, Costume Design By Mila Livoni Zidel 2024.
In 2024, I designed La Rondine for The Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Scenes, where I had the opportunity to create costumes for a world-class stage alongside a remarkable team of emerging artists. With just two weeks to mount the production and only seven days for fittings and final builds, I led the design process from concept to stage. Drawing inspiration from 1920s glamour, the costumes featured silky champagne tones, shimmering metallics, and vintage silhouettes that reflected each character’s emotional arc—balancing romance, elegance, and period authenticity. This project challenged me to think quickly and collaboratively, and it remains one of the most rewarding experiences of my design career.
Witch, Krannet Center, 2024
Witch, Costume Design By Mila Livoni Zidel 2024.
I designed the 2024 Krannert Center for the Performing Arts production of Witch by Jen Silverman, crafting a costume world that merges the structured silhouettes of 1620s England with bold, modern elements. This hybrid approach emphasized the play’s magical realism and its timeless, allegorical tone. Through tailored leather, vibrant color accents, and stylized textures, the costumes helped underscore the dark humor and contemporary themes embedded in the text. Opening in February 2024, this production invited audiences into a space where the past and present collided—visually reinforcing the question at the heart of the play: what would you sell your soul for?
